Jaw Functional Orthopedics
The Brazilian Approach

2-Day Intensive Course

 November 22–23, 2025
 Zagreb, Croatia

Lead Trainer: Dr. Patrícia Valerio (Brazil)
Co-organizers & Clinical Contributors: Dr. Ela Bănică (Romania) & Dr. Aleksandar Gullin (Croatia)

What is Functional Dentofacial Orthopedics (FDO)?

Functional Dentofacial Orthopedics is a highly interdisciplinary branch of dentistry that goes beyond tooth alignment and focuses on the functions of the entire stomatognathic system—breathing, chewing, swallowing, posture, and phonation—to naturally guide facial and jaw growth.

This therapeutic approach leverages the body’s own biological forces and the natural positioning of the tongue and mandible, avoiding excessive mechanical pressure, to reshape occlusion and bone structures in a harmonious and physiological way.

Why is FDO so relevant today?

✔️ Because it addresses root causes, not just symptoms—proper dental alignment is the result of a well-functioning system.
✔️ Because craniofacial development is significantly influenced by epigenetic and environmental factors, not solely by genetics.
✔️ Because breathing and posture disorders are closely linked to improper oral development.
✔️ Because early intervention in malocclusion ensures long-term health, function, and quality of life from childhood.
✔️ Because modern dentistry requires a shift toward a holistic, functional, and preventive perspective.

Our Message

Teeth do not align properly because we force them to—but because the system functions properly.
It’s time to shift the focus to the biological functions that support harmonious development.
This is the core of the new paradigm in dentistry: proper function generates proper form.
